Unusual may well be the flattering description, and so completely I can not believe that one should seriously heat up the whole drink with ice in the two recipes.

follows promised, now is my personal estimate on the basis of the Blog Battles - for Sailor Jerry Spiced Caribbean Rum


The circumstances were already partly for me to read , but even when the rest of participants and of course in Mixology Blog .

Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum Caribbean

Appearance: Deep amber to hazel. Light streaks, light reflections.

Conclusion: I'm quite honest - the distillate odor is interesting but takes a slightly artificial feel. This is contradicted in taste, although this is quite small, drunk with ice from the dryer still disappear more flavors. "Mild" would be a positive description. ;-)

The night was short, the bottle is almost empty and the taste buds have been put through adventurous creations to the brink of functioning.

But the work has paid off - my cocktail for the blog battle is and must be on a par with other great tiki drinks. ;-)
The difficulties of the other bloggers came naturally to me, too. You have to call it by its name: The rum is already weak in the pure taste and limiting weighs in on this one distillate heavy. There was more or less creative justification for it, after all, in the letter. :-D

but I deliberately decided against a solution with as few ingredients, because I wanted to take up at least rudimentary features of the typical tiki drinks. The result is:

Postcard At 7
  • 1.5cl grapefruit juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 3 cl lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2.5cl cane sugar syrup (Giffard)
  • 1.5cl blackberry liqueur (Giffard Mûroise du Val de Loire)
  • 7.5cl Spiced Rum works (of course only Sailor Jerry!)
preparation
all ingredients give me plenty of ice cubes into the shaker, shake well and strain into a tumbler of fresh ice. Lime slice and a long Grapefruitzeste as decoration to give and serve with straw.

A brief taste classification for those interested: Behind the orange-brown Facade you will smell strong accents fruit, blackberry is outstanding, but also subtle vanilla should be mentioned.

In the Albanian language, there are many Deklinationsmöglichkeiten. This requires one hand to find the words never again in the dictionary and understand the opposite on the other hand never know what you think yourself straight.

then ... nothing happened for a long time. Several unexpected happens, it's raining or if your friends do not have time. In mid-September but then it was ready. ;-)

The recipe is from Steven Paul, was published in Mixology 3 / 2010 and appears here in slightly modified form.
one hand, I have replaced the name of a famous Tennessee whiskey through a universal form and on the other hand, the amounts adjusted a bit, there's at least for me much too much sauce left over.

spare ribs with bourbon and orange pepper sauce (for 2 persons)
  • 1kg spareribs (unmariniert)
  • 2 cloves garlic 10g
  • Ginger
  • small 1 Orange
  • 5cl bourbon
  • 3 tablespoons liquid honey
  • 160ml tomato ketchup
  • 0.75 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • black pepper (spice mill)
  • salt
  • oil
preparation
The ribs into manageable portions cut, washed and simmer for one hour in salt water. The meat can cool off in the South.

I'm so divided on these two rum What pure but only can excite the part is usually much better in a cocktail.
Instead of the usual Testing in Sour I decided, therefore, for a fruitier, more exotic version and took the Doctor Cocktail and adapted one of the "historic" recipes. The result is impressive!

Doctor Cocktail
  • 2.5cl lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 5cl Swedish Punch (even set)
  • 5cl Aged Rum (Concepcion 1990)
preparation
Shake all ingredients over ice in a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lime zest give.

holidays are over - unfortunately, as I now can say quite clearly.
an unbelievably wonderful country, helpful and sympathetic people on every corner, fascinating landscapes and a rather undervalued price / performance level. Especially in restaurants, the prices for delicious meals well affordable.

A few nice pictures to follow, now it is all about the alcoholic side of Albania.

In Tirana there was a Tiki bar with a nice decoration - unfortunately the bartender did not faux-Polynesian drinks, spoke no English and the Tiki-Mugs employees seemed to be only on their work clothes a term.
pity, because the cocktails were not completely wrong (freshly squeezed lemon juice, crushed ice cold, fresh ice in the glass), but unfortunately lacked a bit of that sensibility. No Jigger, everything was shaken with crushed ice, Granity glasses for everything.

Skenderbeu konjac ... we do not talk about it. The standard filling is undrinkable (I caught allegedly even an original filling, often, the empty bottles filled with homemade booze and resold), announced the 13-year-old Skenderbeu nowhere to buy.

surprise it was to offer the spirits in the supermarket. were the usual suspects are plentiful (Smirnoff, Chivas Regal, Bacardi, Gordon's ...), but in any province supermarkets you can find really Pampero Especial, and - hold on - Johnnie Walker Blue Label. However, the bottle may have got there, the price was slightly higher than the German.

Raki is the national drink. In a hostel in Berat was just another 10l delivery of homemade raki in (in PET bottles), this should be better than that of the last delivery. Quite honestly, I do not know the last filling must have tasted ...
A little drinkable was the self-made raki a traditional restaurants. Unfortunately, I was the only one who found it. The girls liked him at all, it was again all depend on me. ;-(

On the way back I made a stop at the Duty Free Shops and covered myself in Albania with a liter bottle of Beefeater 47 € for 9 *, in Munich, one liter of Ron Zacapa went 23 for 49,50 € (unfortunately, the new filling is moderate to usable) in my possession and over in Dusseldorf was joined by a very nice bottle of Hendrick's Gin (liter bottle to € 32.90). Especially nice because it was a great addition.
How exactly you came at Hendrick's to "Time for Tea," says I do not. But the porcelain cup is well made and I find the idea funny, especially the totally outrageous statement to a board side is highly amusing. The story is there along with a tea-time drink. ;-)
